JEFF BOSTIC

Artist, curator, activist, and DJ for over 25 years.

ARTIST & CURATOR

Involved in the Bay Area arts, music, and nonprofit scenes since 2000. I was born in Virginia and started pursuing my artistic visions at the VCU School of the Arts. I engulfed myself in the arts and music scenes in the city of Richmond VA. At first, I started just wanting to be a painter but after my first year I open myself to the idea of having no boundaries as an artist. I learned how to DJ, started writing poetry, did some acting and starred in an underground movie! Curated shows of all kinds of artistic expressions professionally for my school and my own artist group called Round House. I soaked up as much as I could in the arts in my 5 years in Richmond VA.

After graduating, I moved to San Francisco to start my career as a professional artist. This is where I started to fine tune my managing, producing, and collaboration skills. A thrive for community arts & music collaborations has been a theme of mine throughout my career.

From painting, drawing, filmmaking, DJing, poetry and dance -- and realized that I would always be open to all forms of art and opportunities for unique outcomes. I have helped start up two arts magazines and curated all their events from fundraisers, premieres, to community art shows. I was a founder of a variety performance night and slowly started DJing all over California. I currently show my various forms of art all over the city and continue to collaborate with organizations and artists with a progressive mindsets.

ACTIVISM & NON-PROFIT WORK

The most important aspect in my career is my non profit and activism work around underserved communities in the Bay Area. Since college I have always wanted to be an impact as an artist and activist in my community. Throughout my career, I’ve devoted myself to underserved youth population while simultaneously increasing my responsibilities at each new opportunity. I have been a program director, site coordinator, recruiting manager, and event organizer. Within these rolls I’ve recruited, trained, and managed a gazillion staff and volunteers. My community engagement/networking skills are unique, because of my simultaneous involvement with non profits, local politics, and event management projects. And I’ve learned how to network, partner with and influence a diverse array of communities, which is one of my greatest strengths. People see my “all in” attitude and authentic servant leadership throughout my work.

On the administrative end, I have developed skills in collecting and recording data for grants and for accountability of a variety of programs. I have taken on human resources and office management roles in a number of jobs to gain new skills and to help the organizational flow of the program. I have designed marketing materials for various arts and community non profits. Managing several different kinds of budgets big and small. Learned a variety of CRM software by taking city organized workshops for each new system.

My integrity is high. Whether it’s spending the extra time to build stronger relationships with donors or helping my fellow coworkers meet strict deadlines, I earn the trust it takes to build community. Since the majority of my past roles required me to act as an extreme self-starter, I’ve had the opportunity to design most of my recruitment and retainment strategies, as well as keep up to date with new training practices, computer applications, and marketing trends.

As mentioned, during my simultaneous career in nonprofit youth development, I am involved in local politics and event planning. I have helped campaign for local progressives at both the Board of Supervisors and the Board of Education. And I was mayoral candidate Jane Kim’s official DJ as well as DJing in front of 9,000+ Bernie Sanders supporters! In the last 20 years, I have produced or have had lead roles in over 300 events. I have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in fundraising events. I have developed a high level experience in event planning and management working within the corporate, arts, education and nonprofit worlds.
